Stride for Sight Event Details

Taking place on 2^nd March 2014 in Tempe, AZ, this fantastic event offers participants the opportunity to run either a 5km route or walk a 1-mile route alongside both blinds and sighted runners. For those who want an extra challenge, runners can choose to run whilst wearing a blindfold and be paired with a sighted guide – why not try experiencing this competition in a completely unique way?

Tickets cost $35 on the day of entry, but if you book before midnight on February 12 you’ll only pay $25. The event has been a huge success in previous years and promises to be a lot of fun, so we encourage you to check out the event page to find out whether it’s something you’d like to do.

About the Foundation for Blind Children

The foundation was formed way back in 1952 and has since become a national leader in creating opportunities for anyone with vision loss. They have a mission to provide education, tools, and services that enable all persons with vision loss to achieve greater independence.

The FBC offers services to help children with visual impairments achieve greater independence. It helps them access opportunities, such as sports and learning, which would be considered normal for sighted children. These services help to give these children a meaningful and productive life that might not be available to them otherwise.

Its mission is to see a world where vision loss is a diagnosis, not a disability. The FBC provides a comprehensive system of services at all levels of education – from Kindergarten through elementary and secondary education and then all the way onto college and adulthood. They currently have the largest such pre-school in the nation, with 75 students on three campuses and many of their children graduate from college and pursue successful careers.

We're so happy to support this great cause at Arizona's Vision because their work is so closely aligned to ours. We love helping people see better and in doing so helping improve their overall quality of life – we’re elated to be supporting a cause that helps make this happen.

Our Recent News

Lately, the patients we have been seeing at the office have been very varied and we have been helping mostly kids see without glasses or daytime contact lenses.  We have also been having success with more mature patients who struggle to read and see information on their cell phones, as well as fitting patients with specific diseases such as keratoconus, or patients that have had corneal transplants.

We have also been invited to the Google offices in Venice Beach, LA to get an increased perspective on how Google Glasses could be distributed through optometrists’ offices! We’re very excited to be involved with the latest technological breakthroughs that will help make things a little easier for those with a visual impairment.

In line with the sponsorship of the Stride for Sight event, we at Arizona’s Vision are very connected with the local community. Just recently we connected with the Chinese Linguistic School and performed SPOT vision screenings on many of their students.

SPOT is powered by sophisticated technology and allows us to quickly detect an indication of a variety of vision issues, such as near-sightedness (myopia), far-sightedness (hyperopia), blurred vision, pupil size deviations (anisocoria) and eye-misalignment (strabismus). The SPOT checks were highly effective and made it easy for us to assess the need for follow-up diagnosis.

As well as making donations to the FBC, we have also supported the Stride for Site events every year and we are proud to have recently attended the gifting of the Ruth Ann Page Memorial scholarship to the latest recipients at Desert Vista and Mountain Pointe High School. This $500 scholarship is available for those in fine arts who plan on continuing in fine arts in college.

Arizona's Vision sponsors Stride for Sight and helps Foundation for Blind Children

Arizona's Vision, a Phoenix-based eye care center, is sponsoring Stride for Sight, a community 5km run & 1km walk supporting the Foundation for Blind Children.

Phoenix, Arizona, January 17, 2014

Arizona's Vision, a comprehensive eye-care center based in Phoenix, has announced that they have signed up to sponsor the Stride for Site, a unique fundraising community event taking place on 2^nd March 2014 in Tempe, AZ.

The event aims to raise funds for the Foundation for Blind Children (FBC) and comprises a 5 km run and a 1-mile walk – it offers the opportunity for both blind and sighted runners to compete together. Runners also have the opportunity to run blindfolded with a sighted guide to experience competition at a whole new level!

“The entire staff at Arizona's Vision are particularly excited to once again sponsor this cause because all the money raised from entry fees and sponsorship will go towards supporting the fantastic work of the Foundation for Blind Children,” states Dr. Mark Page, owner of the practice.
